LOCAL INTERESTS:

West Michigan, the greater Grand Rapids area, and Byron Center offer various activities catering to all interests and ages.  Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the picturesque Lake Michigan shore with several options within a 30 to 45-minute drive.  Saugatuck Dunes State Park spans 2.5 miles along the lake shore with 12 miles of dune trails.  The park features a 300-acre natural area that contains a coastal dune system and three endangered plant species.   A bustling city beach in Grand Haven just north of Grand Rapids is one of the most extensive beaches, with 48 acres of beach sand.  Grand Haven State Park has a fishing pier, picnicking area, and playground and typically has the best wind or waves for those wanting to surf.  The state and national park beaches near Holland, Michigan, are 25 to 30 miles west of Bryon Center.   If you have a bicycle,  try a day on the Kent Trails. Flat, well-maintained trails provide access to nature through residential areas with woods, creeks, fields, and the Grand River. Art lovers are drawn to Grand Rapids’ main cultural highlight, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.  The park thoughtfully scatters over 100 sculptures in individual settings that relate to and elevate the art. Pathways meander through gardens, waterways, lawns, and meadows where the sculptures are encountered upfront and then reappear at different angles. The permanent collection includes over 50 works by masters, including Richard Serra, Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Louise Bourgeois, Ai Weiwei, Mark di Suvero, Barbara Hepworth, Roxy Paine, and many others. An attraction within walking distance is the Tanger Outlet Mall located on Pfeiffer Farms Drive on the south side of 84th St.  The mall features various brands at discounted prices.  A family favorite, Craig’s Cruisers, is only minutes away.  Your
family can spend the afternoon enjoying go-karts, mini golf, the arcade, and pizza.  Downtown Grand Rapids is a 10-minute drive north on US131.  The city has several bars, restaurants, museums, and the Van Andel Arena.
